Reiki: The Experience

TREATMENT OPTIONS
Massage Table Treatment
The Massage Table Treatment is the most common treatment among clients. The treatment typically lasts for 60 minutes with 30 minutes focused on the front of the body and 30 minutes focused on the back. The table itself is structured to support any body type and includes arm rests and a head rest to provide optimum comfort. All linens are laundered before each session to avoid any contact with allergens and bacteria. For house calls, the portable table should be set up in a quiet, roomy area of the client’s home.
Chair Treatment
The Chair Treatment typically lasts for 30 minutes with 15 minutes focused on the upper body and 15 minutes focused on the lower body. Chair Treatments are most often received by clients who have ailments preventing them from lying comfortably on the massage table. For house calls, providing a chair that gives access to the back and neck is recommended. The use of easy chairs and couches is discouraged as it is difficult to maneuver around large pieces of furniture.
Distance Treatment
Distance Treatments are usually requested by clients who are traveling, are overseas or have a loved one overseas for an extended period of time, or anonymously for a family member or friend. A Distance Treatment is very similar to a physical treatment in routine, though energy is sent to the receiver through thought and meditation rather than physical touch. Distance Treatments are more abstract than physical treatments, but there is no difference in strength of effect. However, providing a photo or back story of the receiver is recommended for clearer energy flow. The receiver does not need to prepare in any way, or even be aware that the treatment is taking place to feel its effects. Clients are welcome to be present at the time of the Distance Treatment, though most abide by the “honor system.”
Pet Treatment
Holistic treatments are some of the most effective and sometimes the only way to treat your pet’s ailment. Because animals can’t say “where it hurts,” Reiki is a great treatment method as it heals the entire body. Pet Treatments are administered very similarly to human treatments, though for skittish or overly active animals a hybrid of Distance and Traditional Reiki is employed. Though most pet owners prefer house calls, all pets are welcome for sessions in my home. Common sanitary precautions are appreciated.
CONSENT
A consent form is required to be read and signed by all clients. This form details the nature of the treatment and the parts of the body involved to ensure complete knowledge and comfort before and during the session. Clients under the age of 18 require written consent from a parent or guardian.
CLOTHING
Many clients inquire about what to wear to a session. Comfortable, lightweight clothing is best – cotton t-shirts, yoga pants, gym shorts – though weight and material of clothing does not affect the benefits of Reiki. Though clients are required to be fully clothed during the session, socks and shoes are optional.
TREATMENT
The session begins with an overview and discussion of the specific areas of the body that need the most attention. Depending on each client’s comfort, I can either work in the energy field above the body using no direct touch, or treat traditionally using light touch. Room temperature, lighting and music will be adjusted according to each client’s relaxation preferences. I begin each treatment at the head and continue working through each of the 7 major energy centers (chakras), restoring balance to the body. When treating on the Massage Table, I work for 30 minutes on the front of the body with the client lying on his or her back, then 30 minutes on the back of the body with the client lying on his or her stomach. When treating in a chair, the client need not change positions during the session. Position variations can be made depending on comfort and preference. Throughout the session, extra time and energy will be placed on aforementioned areas that need the most attention. After the session is complete, it is best to breathe deeply and drink a lot of water in the days following your treatment in order to aid your body's healing process. While some people begin to feel effects immediately, others may take a few days to feel results.
During the treatment, people have reported experiencing warmth, a "glowing" sensation, deep relaxation, floating, tingling, and emotional release, while others feel nothing at all. Either way, Reiki is entering your body and helping it to kick-start the healing process. Reiki is safe for all ages and conditions as it only uses light to no touch at all. Pregnant women, children, and patients who suffer from debilitating diseases can all benefit from Reiki safely.
